Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of
Independence?
Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died.
Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.
Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured.
Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.
They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.
What kind of men were they?
Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists. Eleven were merchants, nine were farmers and large
plantation owners; men of means, well educated. But they signed the Declaration of
Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured.
Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the
seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in
rags.
Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost
constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His
possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.
Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett,
Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.
At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson Jr., noted that the British General Cornwallis
had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters.
He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and
Nelson died bankrupt. Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy
jailed his wife, and she died within a few months.
John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for
their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he
lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children
vanished. A few weeks later he died from exhaustion and a broken heart.
Norris and Livingston suffered similar fates.
Such were the stories and sacrifices of the American Revolution.
These were not wild-eyed, rabble-rousing ruffians. They were soft-spoken men of means and
education. They had security, but they valued liberty more. Standing tall, straight, and
unwavering, they pledged "For the support of this declaration, with firm reliance on
the protection of the Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our
fortunes, and our sacred honor."
They gave you and me a free and independent America.
The history books never told you a lot about what happened in the Revolutionary War.
We didn't fight the British. We were British subjects at that time and we fought our own
government!
Some of us take these liberties so much for granted, but we shouldn't.
So, take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and silently thank these
patriots. And as in all our war hero's we honor, and should not be forgotten, let us not
forget who gave us these United States in the first place. And be sure to tell this story
to your family, children, friends and neighbors, it's not so much to ask for the price
they paid.
STATE CONSTITUTION MUST CONFORM: Some people tell me that if the state
constitution doesn't conform to the United States Constitution that our rights under the
latter are not operative. This is wrong. In order to be admitted to the Union, states had
to agree to abide by the U. S. Constitution in the making of their own. So read this:.
"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the
jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they
reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or
immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of
life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its
jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws." Of course, this is pretty much like
the anti-self defense (guns) people saying that the Second Amendment is not
"absolute" so they can get away with violating it with all the anti-self defense
laws they make. They have to lie about what the Constitution says or does in order to make

equivalent to a fully loaded Boeing 727 crashing to the earth every day with no survivors.

THE MSJAMA WEB SITE WITH THE QUESTIONS AND RESULTS AS FOLLOWS.
With this introduction MSJAMA (Medical Student Journal of the American Medical
Association) opened the following medical student opinion poll:
"In the United States, firearms are used to commit a majority of all homicides, guns
in the home increase the risk of homicide almost 3-fold, and the risk of suicide almost
5-fold. Most of the risk is related to handguns. Given these data do you feel that a
universal ban on handgun sales and licenses would be an appropriate public health
measure?" The four choices for participants were:
1. All public health statistics aside, the right to bear arms is absolutely
protected by the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution.
2. The right to bear arms is supported by Charlton Heston. Anything that is
considered good for Charlton Heston must also be good for the public health.
3. These data clearly demonstrate that access to handguns is a significant
and preventable cause of homicide and suicide; therefore, public health
measures limiting the distribution of handguns are long overdue.
4. Better data on the epidemiology of firearm-related death are required
before a universal handgun ban would be justified.
At the end of the polling period (4/7/00), there were 9650 votes recorded; the result:
#1. 90 percent (8641 votes)
#2. 3 percent (247 votes)
#3. 2 percent (229 votes)
#4. 6 percent (533 votes)
This last choice was, incidentally, MSJAMA editor's choice. This was definitely a gun poll
that backfired despite the relentless propaganda for gun control in AMA publications! -

Some Startling Statistics taken from the Benton County(AK) News Tribune on the 17th of
November, 1999:
Number of physicians in the U.S.............................700,000
Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year...........120,000
Accidental deaths per physician.............................0.171
Number of gun owners in the U.S.........................80,000,000
Number of accidental gun deaths per year (all age groups) ...1,500
Accidental deaths per gun owner.........................0.0000188
Therefore, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than
gun owners. In some hospitals, the stats are worse!
MediaWatch, a media watchdog organization, examined every gun control policy story on
four evening shows (ABCs World News Tonight, CBS Evening News, CNNs The World
Today, and NBC Nightly News) and three morning broadcasts (ABCs Good Morning
America, CBS This Morning, and NBCs Today) between July 1, 1995 and June 30, 1997.
MediaWatch calculated that in those two years 157 pro-gun control stories were aired
compared to 10 stories opposed to gun control, while another 77 stories were neutral. This
approximate 16:1 ratio in favor of gun control hardly depicts an unbiased media. Therein
lies a major obstacle to spreading the truth about gun ownership. While adopting a
decidedly biased anti-gun stance, the media also fails to promote firearm safety and
education.
According to current federal law - United States Code (USC) TITLE 10--ARMED FORCES
Section 311. Militia: composition and classes (a) The militia of the United States
consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in
section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of
intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United
States who are commissioned officers of the National Guard. (b) The classes of the militia
are-- (1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval
Militia; and (2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who
are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia. Regarding the
"unorganized militia" mentioned above, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Presser
v. Illinois (1886) that, "It is undoubtedly true that all citizens capable of bearing
arms constitute the reserved military force or reserve militia of the United States as
well as of the States." Though this ruling is over 100 years old, no subsequent
Supreme Court ruling has contradicted it.
According to the U.S. Congressional Subcommittee Report on the
Constitution in 1982: "The conclusion is thus inescapable that the history, concept,
and wording of the second amendment to the Constitution of the United States, as well as
its interpretation by every major commentator and court in the first half-century after
its ratification, indicates that what is protected is an individual right of a private
citizen to own and carry firearms in a peaceful manner."
Here's an interesting long lost fact - In 1969 a group of Black Panthers decided that
a fellow black named Alex Rackley needed to die. Rackley was a fellow Panther suspected of
disloyalty. Rackley was first tied to a chair. Once safely immobilized his 'friends'
tortured him for hours by, among other things, pouring boiling water on him. When they got
tired of torturing Rackley, Black Panther member Warren Kimbo took Mr. Rackley outside and
put a bullet in his head. Rackley's body was later found floating in a river about 25
miles north of New Haven, Conn.
Perhaps at this point you're curious as to what happened to these Black Panthers. In 1977,
that's only eight years later, only one of the killers was still in jail. The
shooter, Warren Kimbro, managed to get a scholarship to Harvard. He later became an
assistant dean at Eastern Connecticut State College.
Isn't that something? As a '60s radical you can pump a bullet into someone's head,and a
few years later, in the same state, you can become an assistant college dean! Only in
America!
Erica Huggins was the lady who served the Panthers by boiling the water for Mr.Rackley's
torture. Some years later Ms. Huggins was elected to a California School Board.
How in the world do you think these killers got off so easy? Maybe it was in some part due
to the efforts of two people who came to the defense of the Panthers. These two people
actually went so far as to shut down Yale University with demonstrations in defense of the
accused Black Panthers during their trial.
One of these people was none other than Bill Lan Lee. Mr. Lee, or Mr. Lan Lee, as the case
may be, isn't a College dean. He isn't a member of a California School Board. He is now
head of the U.S. Justice Department's Civil Rights Division.
O.K., so who was the other Panther defender? Is this other notable Panther defender now a
school board member? Is this other Panther apologist now an assistant college dean? No,
neither! The other Panther defender was, like Lee, a radical law student at Yale
University at the time. She is now known as the "smartest woman in the
world." She is none other than the unofficial Democratic candidate for the U.S.
Senate from the State of New York, our lovely First Lady, the incredible Hillary Rodham
Clinton.
The wealth and political influence of many gun control leaders makes them exempt from
the same laws that they helped to author. That is why the founder of Handgun Control
Incorporated has a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
Four American presidents have died by gunshots in the last two hundred years.
Six other presidents have survived attempts on their lives. Not very good odds
for politicians. Based on these figures being a politician is more dangerous than
being a soldier or a policeman. One can sympathize with the urgent desire of
politicians, the press & the police to register & remove weapons from the hands of
the people. While having an armed population is a proven method of decreasing
violence in the community, it probably also makes the lives of politicians & policemen
more hazardous.
The U.S. General Accounting Office (GAO) has released information regarding its
investigation of the operation of the National Instant Check System (NICS), the national
database containing records of persons who are disqualified from legally purchasing and
receiving firearms.
The report shows that the NICS failed to provide instant checks 28% of the time, thus
adversely affecting the rights of nearly 1.2 million law-abiding citizens. In addition,
the study found that 42% of wrongful denials were the result of FBI examiner error.
The report also pointed heavily to the lack of prosecutions of criminals who slip
through the system. During the first 13 months of operation, the FBI alerted BATF that
3,353 prohibited persons had been cleared through the system to receive firearms. The
audit continued by showing only about 3% of these individuals were being investigated for
illegal firearms possession.
The liberals tell us we need to compromise in the name of "safety." "Do
it for the children" is a phrase often uttered by President Clinton and other
anti-gun, and anti-rights, politicians. However, is safety their primary concern? I think
not. They think it well we discuss alcohol, drug and sex education in our schools, but
scream when we offer to bring firearm safety literature such as the NRA Eddie the Eagle
Gun Safety Program.
They say trigger locks are needed, yet they refuse to note that California, with its
trigger lock law, had a higher percentage of accidents than Texas, which has no such law.
The "antis" are strangely silent on how they intend to enforce such a law.
Enforcement of such a law would mean striking our Fourth Amendment right.
The death of the little Michigan first-grader was tragic. Yet remember that the little
boy who pulled the trigger was left by his mother in a known drug house with felons,
wherein it was already illegal for them to have firearms. Yet, President Clintons
statement was that had a trigger lock law been in effect, this tragedy would not have
happened. Surely, even the most naïve person would not take that statement seriously.
Another area often debated is the gun show "loophole." I have yet to have
anyone explain to me this alleged "loophole." Since every law in effect outside
a gun show is in effect inside of a gun show, wheres the "loophole?" The
"antis" again want to limit access to firearms by law abiding citizens and
strike the Second Amendment.
- The President and Vice-President can push for anti-gun bills because
they are protected around the clock by heavily armed, and extensively trained, Secret
Service agents, State and local police departments, all paid for by your tax dollars.
President Clinton will be the last President to receive lifetime protection because
Congress recently enacted legislation that limits Secret Service protection for former
Presidents to ten years after leaving office.
The Secret Service strives to maintain a safe environment for the
President and other protectees. To accomplish this task, the Secret Service calls upon
other federal, state and local agencies to assist on a daily basis. For example, when the
President is at the White House, the Secret Service Uniformed Division, the
Metropolitan Police Department, and the U.S. Park Police patrol the streets and parks
nearby. The Secret Service Technical Security Division regularly consults with
experts from other agencies. The military supports the Secret Service through the use of
Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and communications resources. When the President
travels, an advance team of Secret Service agents works with the host city and state
law enforcement and public safety officials to jointly establish the security measures
needed to protect him.
Under Title 18, Section 3056, United States Code, agents and officers of the Secret
Service can carry firearms; execute warrants issued under the laws of the United
States; make arrests without warrants for any offense against the United States committed
in their presence, or for any felony recognizable under the laws of the United States if
they have reasonable grounds to believe that the person to be arrested has committed such
felony; offer and pay rewards for services and information leading to the apprehension of
persons involved in the violation of the law that the Secret Service is authorized to
enforce; investigate fraud in connection with identification documents, fraudulent
commerce, fictitious instruments and foreign securities; perform other functions and
duties authorized by law. The Secret Service works closely with the United States
Attorney's Office in both protective and investigative matters.
The Secret Service employs approximately 2,100 special agents, 1,200 Uniformed Division
officers, and approximately 1,700 other technical, professional, and administrative
support personnel. The Secret Service Uniformed Division is a uniformed force whose
members protect the White House Complex, the Vice President's residence and foreign
embassies and missions in the Washington, D.C.,area. Members of the Uniformed Division
also perform other missions in support of the protection of the President, such as
operating magnetometers, countersnipers, canine handlers, and special operations posts.
The Secret Service has agents assigned to approximately 125 offices located in cities
throughout the United States and in select foreign cities.
Secret Service agents receive the finest law enforcement training in the world.
New agent trainees are initially sent to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center,
Glynco, Georgia, where they are enrolled in the Criminal Investigator Training Program
(CITP). This 9-week course, designed to train new federal investigators in such areas as
criminal law and investigative techniques, provides a general foundation for the
agency-specific training to follow.
Upon successful completion of CITP, new agent trainees attend the 11-week Special Agent
Training Course at the Secret Service Training Academy, Beltsville, Maryland. This course
focuses on specific Secret Service policies and procedures associated with the dual
responsibilities of investigations and protection. Trainees are provided with basic
knowledge and advanced application training in combating counterfeiting, access device
fraud and other financial criminal activity, protective intelligence investigations,
physical protection techniques, protective advances and emergency medicine. The core
curriculum is augmented with extensive firearms training, control tactics, water
survival skills and physical fitness.
Secret Service agents receive continuous advanced training throughout their careers.
Agents are regularly provided with specialized training. In part, this training
consists of regular firearms requalifications and emergency medicine refreshers.
Detail agents also participate in unique simulated crisis training scenarios called
"AOP" or Attack on Principal. These exercises present agents with a variety of
"real world" emergency situations involving Secret Service protectees and are
designed to provide agents with immediate feedback concerning their response to the
problems.
The protective responsibilities of special agents include protection for the President,
Vice President and their families; former Presidents and their spouses; children of former
Presidents until age 16; visiting heads of state or government; major Presidential and
Vice Presidential candidates and their spouses; and other individuals at the direction of
the President.
The Secret Service Uniformed Division is often compared to a police force. However, unlike
a police force, Uniformed Division officers have one mission--protection. They
provide protection for the White House Complex, the Main Treasury Building and Annex and
other Presidential offices; the President and members of the immediate family; the
temporary official residence of the Vice President; the Vice President and members of the
immediate family; and foreign diplomatic missions in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan
area. They accomplish their responsibilities through special support programs such as
countersniper teams, canine units, and emergency response teams. In addition, they use a
network of foot patrols, vehicular patrols, and fixed posts.
In 1965, Congress authorized the Secret Service (Public Law 89-186) to protect a former
President and his/her spouse during their lifetime, unless they decline protection.
Congress recently enacted legislation that limits Secret Service protection for former
Presidents to ten years after leaving office. Under this new law, individuals who are in
office before January 1, 1997, will continue to receive Secret Service protection for
their lifetime. Individuals elected to office after that time will receive protection for
ten years after leaving office. Therefore, President Clinton will be the last
President to receive lifetime protection.
